Publisher’s Letter

By Christian Shane Dougherty
Travel is better when the bag is lighter. I start with one neutral palette so nearly everything works together, then choose pieces that can do double duty from day to dinner.
Two pairs of shoes are enough. Wear the heaviest layer instead of packing it. Edit the toiletries before they ever reach the suitcase, and keep chargers and cords together so they are not hiding in three different pockets.
And leave a little room. The best part of a trip is often the thing you did not plan to bring home.

The Weekender Carry-On · Shop Local
A few pieces worth carrying, chosen for how they look, how they travel, and where you can find them.

A polished carryall with an easy weekend shape.

A sleek, polished option for the frequent traveler.

A relaxed coastal weekender made for an easy few days away.

Small enough to disappear into the bag, useful enough to earn the space.

A strong airport accessory and an easy local pickup at Sunglass Hut inside Macy’s Concord Mall.

Keep the toiletries edited, but keep one small luxury in the bag.

A slim, polished place for the passport and cards.

Jeannette Cona-Larock of Keys to the Castle Travel has been traveling since her first plane trip at 13 and has been helping guests plan meaningful trips since 2011.
Her perspective is the perfect counterpoint to Diana’s: thoughtful planning before the airport can matter just as much as what happens after takeoff.
